Viral video shows Muslim schoolgirls in India dancing to a song insulting non-Muslims as 'dogs'

On August 25th, Swati Goel Sharma, a journalist at Swarajya, shared a video from a school in Uttar Pradesh's Mau district. In the video, girls wearing burqas were seen dancing to a song that criticized non-believers (referred to as Kafirs) and praised the concept of 'purdah' in Islam. These girls are reportedly students of Talimuddin Niswan Women’s Degree College in Mau.

The song in the video encouraged Muslim girls to follow Islamic principles courageously despite opposition, and it highlighted the importance of the 'purdah' as the defining aspect of women's identity, urging faithful Muslim girls to display their 'Imaan' (faith). A voiceover accompanying the song strongly criticized educational systems and institutions that don't align with Islamic rules.

The song also used derogatory terms like 'Hijdas' (colloquial for eunuchs) and 'Kuttas' (dogs) to refer to those considered enemies of Islam. Swati Goel Sharma posted the video on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), expressing her concern about the indoctrination and radicalization taking place in religious minority institutions. She commented that the video depicted women covered in burqas celebrating the conservative practice of full-body covering as a core aspect of their faith while disparaging non-believers as 'hijdas' and 'kuttas,' labeling them as adversaries.

Sharma further underlined that those opposing the 'purdah' system were seen as attempting to undermine Islam. She clarified that the video originated from Talimuddin Niswan Women's Degree College in the Mau district of Uttar Pradesh and noted that the song's tune appeared to be copied from the song 'Kamli' by Katrina Kaif, though she wasn't aware of the original source.
