On Monday, a local mayor reported that a roadside bombing carried out by the jihadist group Al-Shabaab resulted in the tragic death of eight members of an extended family in central Somalia. The incident occurred late on Sunday near a village located outside Buloburde, which is approximately 220 kilometers (136 miles) north of Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia.
According to Sadam Abdi Idow, the mayor of Buloburde, those killed were innocent civilians, including a woman. He expressed his condemnation for Al-Shabaab, stating that the group planted the mine after being defeated in recent military operations in the region, showing no regard for the safety of civilians.
Ahmed Ali, a Somali military commander, added that the terrorists were defeated in an armed confrontation, and in retaliation, they targeted civilians by planting a landmine on the main road frequently used by innocent people.
