In a disturbing instance of "love jihad" in Shamli district, Uttar Pradesh, a man named Rashid from Adampur has committed an alarming act. Despite being already married to five women, four of whom are Hindu and one who is Muslim, Rashid abducted a sixth girl, a 19-year-old Hindu, from their village. He coerced her into converting to Islam and married her in accordance with Islamic customs. Islamic law permits Muslim men to have up to four wives. When the victim's family filed a First Information Report (FIR) against him, he threatened to take their other daughter as well if his name was not immediately removed from the report. Multiple cases have been registered against him at the Chaprauli police station.
Upon discovering that their daughter was missing and the police were unable to locate her, the distressed family sought refuge at Swami Yashvir Singh's ashram in Beghra, Muzaffarnagar district, Uttar Pradesh. The swami alerted local Hindu activists, who subsequently gathered at the police station and staged a protest. Among the protesters were Swami Yashvir Singh and members of the local Bajrang Dal, who demanded severe punishment for the perpetrator. They submitted a memorandum, demanding the safe return of the girl, who remains in the custody of the accused, by June 22. They warned Station House Officer Devendra Sharma of Babri police station that if the girl was not reunited with her family, they would hold a panchayat in the culprit's village on Thursday. The police officer assured them that Rashid would be arrested soon.
The activists emphasized that Rashid's pattern of marrying Hindu women, abandoning them, and seeking out new ones indicated a deliberate targeting of Hindu females for conversion. The abducted girl had been staying with her maternal uncle in the Sanauli Nagla hamlet under the jurisdiction of Chhaprauli police station for the past three months before mysteriously disappearing. It was later discovered that she had been kidnapped by a Muslim man.
