Everything in moderation, including moderation

MGMM Team

"Everything in moderation, including moderation" is a profound and paradoxical statement that encapsulates a philosophy of balance and self-awareness. This saying suggests that while moderation is generally considered a virtue, there are times when even moderation itself should be moderated. In other words, there are instances when it is appropriate to step outside the bounds of moderation to achieve a greater equilibrium and understanding.

Moderation, often praised for promoting a healthy lifestyle and balanced approach to various aspects of life, is rooted in the idea of avoiding excess or extremes. It encourages us to avoid overindulgence and unnecessary extravagance, whether it's in terms of consumption, behaviour, or emotions. This principle is widely applied to areas like diet, exercise, work, leisure, and even emotional responses.

However, like any principle, moderation can become rigid if taken to an extreme. When moderation is followed too strictly, it might hinder personal growth, exploration, and the pursuit of new experiences. It could potentially lead to missed opportunities for self-discovery, creativity, and expanding one's horizons.

The phrase "including moderation" suggests that even moderation itself can be overdone. For instance, being overly cautious in always adhering to a moderate path might prevent us from fully embracing moments of spontaneity, passion, or intensity that life can offer. In this context, the saying advocates for a balanced approach to balance itself—a gentle reminder that occasionally breaking free from the confines of moderation can lead to enhanced self-awareness, deeper experiences, and a richer understanding of life's complexities.
