China expressed its endorsement of indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States concerning the 2015 nuclear agreement. According to state media reports, China stated that engaging in dialogue was the most effective means of resolving the issue. Mao Ning, spokesperson for China's Foreign Ministry, emphasized that resuming the comprehensive plan (JCPOA) through dialogue and negotiation was a productive approach to finding a resolution.
Mao further highlighted that the JCPOA, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, was a significant accomplishment in multilateral diplomacy. Following the unilateral withdrawal of the United States from the agreement in May 2018, Iran progressively increased its nuclear enrichment activities beyond the agreement's prescribed limits. Although talks to revive the groundbreaking agreement have remained at an impasse since last year, it has been reported that Tehran and Washington have resumed indirect discussions.
The renewed efforts to salvage the agreement gained momentum after Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei stated earlier this month that a deal regarding Iran's nuclear program could be achieved if the country's nuclear industry infrastructure remained intact. China has remained in close communication with all relevant parties involved in the matter.
