A lawsuit has been filed against a group of ten individuals, including the chairman of the local union council and his brother, for assaulting and robbing a Hindu family in the Debidwar sub-district of Cumilla (formerly Comilla) District in southeastern Bangladesh. The victim, Parimal Sarkar, has lodged the case in the speedy trial tribunal as the plaintiff, as reported by the Bengali-language national daily newspaper of Bangladesh, "Kalbela."
The lawyer representing the plaintiff, Advocate Kazi Nizamul Haque Nizam, confirmed the lawsuit to the Kalbela newspaper. The accused in the case are Chairman Kamruzzaman Masud of the local union council, his younger brother Md. Aktaruzzaman, Kazi Billal, Kazi Helal, Jaidal Hossain, Shaheen Islam, Zahirul Islam, Didarul Alam Faiz, Gaffar, and Mamun. The plaintiff's lawyer expressed hope that the victim's family would receive justice.
It is worth noting that this incident occurred during a clash between the Chhatra League (the student wing of the ruling Bangladesh Awami League) and the Jubo League (the youth wing of the ruling Bangladesh Awami League) in the same location. The Hindu family was attacked, their house was vandalized, and their belongings were stolen. During the incident, allegations were made of looting items such as a TV, furniture, and gold ornaments from the house.
It should be clarified that the members of the victim Hindu family have no affiliation with political parties or the clashes. However, incidents of communal violence, land grabbing, "love jihad," and forced religious conversion targeting Hindus have been ongoing in Bangladesh.
