There was a saying “if you are born poor it is not your fault, but if you die poor it is your fault”. A Dalit lady faced all the troubles and succeeded in her life. Yes, it’s a true story of a lady named Kalpana Saroj. Kalpana Saroj was not only a girl child from a poor family but also she belonged from a Dalit community. She faced many hurdles in her childhood days, she even got married at the age of only 12 years. She even faced troubles during her school days. Her father was constable but being a Dalit she had heard many things from the people. But despite all of this, her father sent her to the village school but there also she heard many things from other parents for being a Dalit and they also don’t allow their children to study with her.
After all this her father got her married with a man 10 years older than her. She went to Mumbai with her husband. Her in-laws lived in a slum area but for them she is a machine for cooking and cleaning. Her father visited six months after marriage; he failed to recognise her and then he decided to bring her home back. After all this she decided to resume her study again. But she had to face backlash from her neighbours. She decided to go to her uncle’s house in Mumbai to start working for her future and from there her life started to change. Then she got married again at the age of 22 years and had two children, a son and a daughter. She started her own entrepreneurship and from there her life started to change and a Dalit woman became so successful in India that she marked her footprint for the next Dalit generation women.
